10 Best Places To Visit In Yeosu during Winter

Yeosu is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in South Korea. The beautiful ocean that surrounds the city makes it a popular place to visit among thousands of tourists. There are also other reasons why Yeosu is loved; there are countless sights and activities. 

Most people remember the city for hosting the Yeosu Expo in 2012. an event that had over 8 million visitors in attendance. 

The city is known for having an amazing night view. There is even a hit song, “Night Sea of Yeosu,” that talks of the city’s beauty. Nighttime in Yeosu shouldn’t be missed if you find yourself in the city.

1. Odongdo Island

This is a very popular island, and it’s very accessible. The island is rich in camellias, which makes it one of the first places to visit in Yeosu. When the camellias are in full bloom, the island is a beautiful sight to behold. The road is lined with approximately 3000 camellia trees. 

It takes you about 10 minutes to get to the island from the central city. There are beautiful attractions on the island, such as a lighthouse (there is a little exhibit on the inside), a theme park, a musical fountain, etc. There is a camellia train that takes tourists across the island, and it allows you to get a better view of the island. 

You can take photos at different spots on this marvelous island.

2. Dolsan Park

Dolsan Park should be on your list of places to see. If you want to see what Yeosu looks like from above, you should go to this park. It is located at the entrance of Dolsan Island. 

Going to the park at night will give you the opportunity to witness the bridge light shows. The feeling is indescribable. As soon as the sun sets, the Yeosu Port and the Dolsan Bridge are instantly illuminated and trust us, it is a magnificent sight to behold. 

Also, there are different live shows organized at the park, so this is recommended if you want to always remember your visit. 

There is a marine aerial cableway that transports tourists to Jasan Park during the day. While sitting there, you can admire the surrounding sea, Geobukseon Bridge, Hamel lighthouse, and Janggundo. 

Dolsan Park is located at 3600-1, Dolsan-ro, Dolsan-eup, Yeosu-si, South Korea.

3. Hyangiram Hermitage

Located at the tip of Dolsan Island, Hyangiram Hermitage is a popular Buddhist site. It is surrounded by rocky cliffs and is sometimes called Yeongguam or Geumoam. It resembles a turtle due to the shape of the rocks and how they are arranged. 

Being situated near the sea, the temple is incredible, and every worry taken to ascend the steep steps is quickly forgotten. The rising sun is best viewed in front of the temple. This is evident in the crowds that gather here during the New Year’s Sunrise Festival. 

4. Aqua Planet Yeosu

This is another location that you must visit while in Yeosu during winter. Thousands of visitors have arrived at this area yearly since its opening in 2012. It was a favorite attraction during the Expo in 2012 which had about 105 countries participating in the exposition. It remains popular even after the Expo. 

You will get to appreciate the diversity and uniqueness of the sea after your visit. There is a big tank on display here and you will also see divers swimming in the aquarium and relating with children. 

There are Aqua Planet aquariums all over the country but the one in Yeosu is the best. If you love sea creatures then this place is for you. You can visit with your family or kids as well.

5. Yeosu Ocean Railbike

This rail bike runs on a 3.5 km transformed railroad that has pedal rail bikes. This provides an unobstructed view of the ocean. These rail bikes were the first of its kind in the country.   

The length of the railroad is pleasing to the eyes and there are different tunnels that add variation to the coastal route. Among these tunnels (Marae Tunnel) is a fantastic LED display that you cannot afford to miss. 

When you are on the pedal rail bikes, you will feel very close to the South Sea and Odongdo Island, so close that you might think that you can stretch your hand and touch them.

The setting sun provides a romantic atmosphere with radiant lights sprinkling the ocean. 

Winter is a perfect time to ride the pedal rail bikes because it gives you a remarkable adventure, with an exclusively new sight for that season.

6. Nangman Pocha Street

This list would not be complete if we did not mention somewhere you could go to and enjoy delicious Yeosu meals. Nangman Pocha Street is one location that has different restaurants and food stalls that sell different native dishes. 

Even if you do not like eating out in the open, there are big restaurants on the street too. 

There is a popular stew that you need to try out here. It is made with 3 main ingredients: abalone, samgyeobsal, and octopus. This delicacy is also prepared with different seafood. If you like, you can add rice to your stew too. 

7. Jasan Park

This is an amazing park sitting on top of the Southern part of Joella Province. From the park you can also see the Namhae Sea. The park is decorated with countless green trees and beautiful plants surrounding the area. 

At the center of the park there is a very high statue of Commander Yi Sun-Shin. This statue is one out of the two most popular statues in the country. Commander Yi was a force to reckon with during the Imjin War. The navy experienced great improvements under his command and recorded so many victories.

8. Yeosu Sky Tower

It is a favorite tourist attraction and it stands tall as the tallest structure at the Yeosu Expo site. From the top of the tower, you can get a bird’s view of the Expo site, Odongdo Island, the clear ocean, and Yeosu downtown. 

9. Angel Mural Village

This mural village is also a favorite tourist location in Yeosu. It is divided into 9 zones, each with a special theme. 

The village is prominent among the younger generation because it has countless cafes, beautiful backgrounds for pictures, and fun activity spots. 

10. Geomundo

Geomundo is a breathtaking island that is only reachable by water (by using a boat). The island rests between Jeju and Yeosu. Surrounding the island are incredible camellia woods. Standing on Geomundo gives you a clear view of the deep blue sea. 

An incredible landmark is the Geomundo Lighthouse. Visitors troop to the lighthouse to get incredible views of the area. The lighthouse has a long history dating back to the period the British Army occupied Geomundo.
